How to learn Power BI as an accountant — a free path

The free path on findi360: watch the free recorded sessions, drill PL-300-style questions until the vocabulary is automatic, then build real models on DATA DARE finance datasets — trial balances, billing, consolidation — and sit the certificate test when you are ready. There is no fee at any of those steps.

Why finance datasets, not sales demos

Accountants learn Power BI faster on data they already understand. A trial balance, a billing file or an intercompany schedule needs no explaining, so every hour goes into the modelling and the DAX rather than into learning what the columns mean. That is why DATA DARE is built from finance data.

The path

  1. Watch the free recordings — the ones open to anyone are listed below — and follow along with the working files.
  2. Drill the PL-300-style questions on Data Drill until the terms (star schema, CALCULATE, filter context, measures vs columns) are automatic.
  3. Take an L1 DATA DARE dataset and answer all 30 questions in Power BI; then an L2. Post in the discussion when you get stuck.
  4. Sit the certificate test — a timed simulation of 50 questions in 60 minutes — when the drills feel easy.
  5. Take a hiring challenge on Careers: a real job description with a dataset test, free for candidates.

How long it takes

With a few evenings a week, L1 and L2 of one industry take a month or so; the certificate test is realistic after that. L3 and L4 are a longer road and are where most of the career value sits.
