IFRS 18 Excel Model — from General Ledger to IAS 1 and IFRS 18 Statements
A working Excel model that turns a retailer's general ledger into a live trial balance and a full set of financial statements, with the statement of profit or loss presented under IAS 1 as applied today and under IFRS 18 as it applies for annual periods beginning on or after 1 January 2027. Built by findi360 for finance professionals preparing for the transition.

What this model does
IFRS 18 Presentation and Disclosure in Financial Statements replaces IAS 1. It does not change recognition or measurement — profit stays the same — but it changes how the statement of profit or loss is built: every income and expense line is classified into the operating, investing or financing category, operating profit and profit before financing and income taxes become mandatory subtotals, and measures such as EBITDA that a company uses in public must be disclosed and reconciled in a single note.
This model shows the change on a full year of real-looking data. 41,120 journal lines from Mizan Retail, a fictional grocery chain, build a trial balance with SUMIFS — nothing is typed in. Every account is mapped to a statement caption and an IFRS 18 category, and both presentations sit side by side. Profit is identical; operating profit is not, because bank and card charges move from finance costs into the operating category. Note 7 reconciles the two.
Three things to watch for
- The ledger never closes the year: retained earnings on the balance sheet must add the accumulated profit to the GL balance.
- Dividends are posted straight to retained earnings — find them on GL Data and follow them into the cash flow.
- The tax account flips sign: a liability when in credit, tax recoverable when the year was overpaid.
Inside the workbook
- Cover — What the model does, how to use it, and the links.
- GL Data — 41,120 journal lines for FY2024–FY2025, the model's only input.
- TB & Mapping — A live trial balance; each account mapped to an IAS 1 caption and an IFRS 18 category.
- P&L — IAS 1 and IFRS 18 side by side, with the two new mandatory subtotals.
- Balance Sheet — Two years, with a balance check.
- Cash Flow — Indirect method, starting from operating profit as IFRS 18 requires; ties to the trial balance.
- Notes — Operating expenses, PPE roll-forward, borrowings, dividends, EBITDA as a management-defined performance measure, and the IAS 1 → IFRS 18 reconciliation.
Who this model is for

Frequently asked questions
Can I share the model with my team?
Yes. Share it within your team; the workbook keeps its findi360 branding and links.
Can I use my own data?
Yes. Replace the journal lines on GL Data and review the account mapping on TB & Mapping — the trial balance and every statement rebuild automatically.
When does IFRS 18 become effective?
For annual reporting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2027, applied retrospectively — comparatives are restated, which is why preparers are modelling the change now.
Does IFRS 18 change profit?
No. IFRS 18 changes presentation and disclosure, not recognition or measurement. The model's check row proves profit is identical under both presentations.
